Truss tube dobs from ElbiOptics!
As a new product for 2010, Elbioptics now offers truss type dobsonians. The telescopes are designed for fast optics in order to keep the centre of gravity low and to allow comfortable observing with serious aperture without need of steps or ladder. Main parts of the structure are made from quality sealed plywood with natural or coloured finish. Truss tubes joining mirror box and the UTA are made of aluminium, or of carbon composites, if requested by customer. Primary mirror cell is equipped with 18-point flotation system for smaller apertures and ultimate 27-point flotation system for apertures over 400mm. Both altitude and azimuth bearings uses PTFE sliders for smooth and easy motion. All critical parts of the telescope are made from aluminium or stainless steel, cut with laser or on the CNC machines.
Our truss dobs come with unique, 80mm f/4.5 newtonian finders providing the same orientation of the image as the main telescope. Of course, common optical finders as well as red-dot types and Telrad are available too. The customer has a choice from variety of focusers: Moonlite, Baader, Kineoptics and others. Telescope showed on the pictures features black and white color combination and is equipped with 300mm f/5 mirror. However, this type of truss dobs will be made mostly in larger apertures from 350 to 600mm. Currently we are working on 400mm f/4 and 450 f/3.6 telescopes.

Telescopic collapsible dobsonians
If you live in the city, you probably have to transport yourself and your telescope to a dark place. With larger aperture telescopes, this can be a significant problem, because bigger solid tube dobs simply don't fit into the car (especially if you are not the only passenger). We have a solution for you - collapsible telescope. We offer original telescopic construction, that proved to be fully functional, combining advantages of collapsible and solid tube telescopes. If you travel alone, we suggest apertures up to 400mm. It is the biggest telesope that can be safely transported and assebled by one person. If you want larger aperture, you will probably need somebody to help.
Collapsible telescopes of the new design will be made mostly in 350 to 450mm apertures, but you can ask for smaller or larger scope too. However, transporting and operating such a big telescope is somewhat complicated, therefore for apertures over 500mm we recommend our new truss style dobs. Focal ratios are usually f/4 to f/6, but can be different if you wish. Because of ergonomic reasons we recommend focal lenght no more than 1800mm, longer telesopes may require a step or a ladder. The tube consists of two or three segments of octagonal shape that slide into themselves. Collapsed telescope looks like a hand luggage. Greatest advantage of this concept is that the assembly of the scope requires no tools and there are no free parts that could be lost.

The telescopes are equipped with our standard range mirrors with basic coatings, but any other optics can be used on your request, including your own.
Each telescope is equipped with basic 2" rack-and-pinion focuser. At additional cost, we can mount any other focuser of your choice - Baader, Moonlite, Feathertouch, Kineoptics... Telescopes are prepared to accept a finder, but the finder is not included. We can supply the finder on your request, you can choose among commonly sold types or you can opt for our own super-finder. We offer 100mm f/4 or f/3 newtonians with 1.25" output that provide the same image orientation as the main telescope.
Classic solid tube dobs
We make simple and cheaper solid tube scopes too. The tube is also octagonal and low weight is preserved, but portability is somewhat limited due its size. Those telescopes are well suited for stable observing site, where transportability by car is not required.
